MIND MAP (Yorkshire Sculpture Park)

Here is my mind map for Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which I call 'My experience board'. In this I have visualized my personal experience of the park. I have divided it into different categories and shown them through info-graphics( which is also my main project). The whole experience is divided in these 4 categories. The categories are: learning, a day out, adventure, inspiring environment and YSP shop.

MY EXPERIENCE in these categories:
The trip was a study tour, where I saw exhibitions and was a part of the discussion for the mind map. It was an informative and learning experience.

An enjoyable one day outing. The coach journey and friends around was fun. We clicked a lot of photographs and enjoyed coffee and apple pie.

It was an adventurous journey. The weather was difficult to face but at the same time the beautiful scenic view and hiking up and down the hills made it more adventurous.

The whole environment of YSP was inspiring. The YSP shop had some very exclusive stuff.

Feedback:
Visually satisfying looks like a black board. Well structured

YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE PARK

All of us (MA Graphic Design students) went on a one-day trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The weather this day was very bizarre and not at all corporative. It was sunny at one moment, the next rainy, again sunny, than cloudy and all through that.
This season it was an extensive exhibition of over 200 works by artist 'DAVID NASH'. David Nash is a British sculptor who has worked worldwide with wood, trees and the natural environment.

Again I had so much interesting stuff to talk and show about in todays tutorial. I came across a series of 21 different visual representations of a romantic movie called 'Jules & Jim' onto info graphics. The main psycho-physical features of the three characters and their long and turbulent relationship have been synthesized in a mathematical model enlightening the relationship as a real chaotic system.
I was overwhelmed by the designer's work and appreciate the way he has expressed a relationship. The  mathematical representation  is so different which i haven't seen before.

EASY JULES
Starting from the analysis of the            From the punctual analysis of the
film "Jules et Jim" it emerged               the facts of the film a more model-
that during the plot Jules is the              like representation has been created
character that never really comes           In this model the nine main phases of
up with a strong, decisive decision;        the triangle relationship are reported;
he rather prefers to stay calm and         here instead of what showed in the
watch what happens around him.           analysis, there are no punctual events,
So Jules can be represented                  it is all more like a loop which occurs
mostly as a straight line, around            several times during the story presented
which the other main characters             in the film
Jim and Catherine move.The first
analysis led to two main kinds of
measure: "happiness", that states
how much a character can be
considered be considered happy
and self-realized at a certain
point of the story, and "sentimental
distance" that indicates the actual
status of the characters
in relation with others.
PREDICTABLE CATHERINE:
This visualization tries to represent some important feelings that Catherine,
the protagonist of the film Jules & Jim, experienced with Jim & Jules.
Friendship, love, anger, missing and physical attractions are measures in some
key scenes and at the end of the map, based on common "feelings reactions" that
Catherine has during the sequences, I kind of "model of behavior" shows
which could be her possible caused by some other similar event.

Redesigning the cover of the magazine 'NEW SCIENTIST'

New Scientist is a magazine for all the men and women who are interested in scientific discoveries and its industrial, commercial and social consequences.
We had to redesign its front cover using the medium of illustration.

This project helped me understand the importance of design process in development of any design brief. Its important to have an efficient working process in order to deliver a professional piece of work.
We learned the process of understanding the brief, research, problem solving, idea development and practical work.
I developed my own problem solving strategies. I explored the professional design practices and theories and learned how professional designers operate using a design process.
My concept required me to combine YOGA with SCIENCE. It was challenging for me as I had come up with some innovative and out-of-the box solution but at the same time had to stick with the message, i wanted to communicate.

The feedback I got from my supervisor:
Really excellent visual language. You have been successful in including signs and symbols which together speak clearly to the audience.
Good example of the design process being used.

Reading

One of the areas which drew my attention in todays academic writing workshop is 'Reading'. According to our learning development coordinator 'RUTH COWARD' reading leads to effective writing which is true.
I must add reading also enhances your creativity. Reading interests me a lot. Reading switches you to a different world. Different books make you feel different emotions.
I came across LARA BUTLER'S blog which talks about reading and creativity.

Lara Butler's Blog
There are so many methods for you to entertain yourself. You can listen to sounds, watch series or read a nice book. Of course, almost all individuals would select the first two selections and just a few will select to read a good book; many individuals end up believing this to be unexciting.
Steve Jobs, founder of the Apple Software Company, noted that individuals read less nowadays and that, in reality, close to 40% of Americans do not do it ever. This is very much distracting because reading is the topmost important task that persons need to be in to be able to push through their competence and innovativeness.
It has been found that reading has a range of advantages like improving vocabulary and increasing mental alertness. It has also been noted that reading improves the cognitive skills of a person which is the skill used in the process of having new information, interpretation, insight and even instinct.
Reading also develops the innovativeness of a person not like watching movies or television. What happens is that when a person reads, the procedure exercises his or her imagination to be able to develop the outline and characters inside his or her mind. Thereby, an individual who uses most of his or her time in the library is guaranteed to have more elevated cognitive skills compared to people who do not read at all.
Gladly, right now, persons are provided with a lot of options when it goes down to reading because books and other stories are already available in electronic form. But, there are just a few sites that provide a set of stories on any topic and one of these sites is Stop and Read. This site gives various short stories from true life situations and drama that would not only engross but also offer you useful lessons; the tales also develop innovation and cognitive abilities.
I feel reading helps me improve and enhance my imagination. I tend to visualize the whole drama!!!!!!

Journeys, Destinations & Experience

Unity in Diversity:
New beginning, new place, new people, new environment, new food, new culture.. NEW LIFE..
We started with our journey at Nottingham Trent University which will take us to our destinations. A phase with lot of learning and new opportunities.
'Journey and Destination' is an introductory project which focuses on me an international community of the Masters study. It was a good way to meet my fellow classmates from all over the globe.
The journey started from visiting series of sites and venues in Nottingham.
My group members decided the few places to visit in Nottingham like- Contemporary, The New Art Exchange, The surface gallery, Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery, The Nottingham Playhouse and Sky mirror, Old Market Square and The Old Malt Cross, St- James street.

For our project we made a timetable and assigned task to people according to their capabilities and interests.
Each person worked hard on the task that was assigned to him or her. We met for meetings and discussions which turned out to be beneficial to all of us. It was truly a valuable experience. Also it helped me in several other ways:

I realized the importance of team work and
learned how to work efficiently in a team.

I highlighted the issues of language and diversity
 in cross-cultural work.

Recognized and developed my own personal
strengths

Met some friends for lifetime
